I knew something was up- she used to vanish from the media for weeks at a time in the past year.

Someone, anyone who give a rats ass and shows some energy to sort the mess out. You really believe that current state A and E services is acceptable? If you do you are either self deluded or haven't experienced it

Is your logic that no-one can do the job because it's impossible?

I would tend to agree but it seems the media love to bash individuals instead of examining the system and the culture and I'm not just referring to Harney and the HSE.

My logic is that no one can do the job in it's current format or more precicely given the current format of the HSE. If that means it's impossible then YES.

Mary horney just called me to enquire about scoring a few magic musshies,shes going mental at this stage.

Can you get some for me ? In fact it would be great if they handed them out in A & E might help people forget the shit around them during 15 wait

The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD, today acknowledged that the INO analysis of A&E services shows significant improvements on this time last year. She wishes to see this progress sustained and expanded as winter approaches.

The Minister praised the work of the HSE and all staff in the 35 A&E departments around the country who are working to provide a better service to over 3,300 patients a day.

"Fewer patients are waiting for admission, and waiting times are also being reduced".

The Minister said there are a small number of hospitals where problems persist and local solutions for each hospital will be implemented by the HSE.

"We are also continuing to invest in improved capacity for patients. For example,

•In Letterkenny, a 30 bed modular ward is under construction and is due to be completed in January 2007.
•In Drogheda (Our Lady of Lourdes), the refurbishment of the intensive care unit has been completed and will create an additional 8 beds.
•In Cork University Hospital, 10 new beds have now been provided for A&E admissions. An 8 bed admissions unit adjacent to the A&E Dept. of Mercy Hospital will be in place shortly and the new A&E Department for the hospital will be completed in the new year.
•In Limerick, 10 new beds are now being provided for A&E admissions.
•In Castlebar additional capacity for medical admissions will be in place by early 2007.
"There has also been a significant investment in long term care beds. So far this year, over 500 new beds have been acquired. We are continuing to acquire about 200 more beds from the private sector and within the public sector."

"The investment made in new beds and A&E departments this year has also improved services to patients. The health capital investment programme and the co-location initiative are both aimed at delivering new public beds in acute hospitals."

whats gone wrong and what has she done since?? the waiting times and treatment at times is appalling.one of the last times i was there a woman came in with the whole back of her head split open.she got a bandage wrapped around her head and left there for at least 6 hours until it started pumping blood and her sister was trying to stop it with tissue.only then did they take her in.yet all night they were calling in about one person an hour.it wasnt even busy.some woman in her 60s had benn sitting there 12 hrs and they came out and gave her a prescription.it was a fuckin joke.

Nursing used to be a vocation/profession,maybe it has ceased to be the former?

In fairness... the entire Health Sector is in tatters. Every aspect of it.

Right from the entry to medical courses for LC students, the rate at which the country bleeds qualified doctors, the administration processes, nurses striking, nurses unions, consultant outrageous fees, health insurance, waiting times, numbers of beds, closing of hospitals... then u get into the horrible cases that have appeared in the media that have destroyed peoples lives and then the cover ups... and dont even get me started on the disgrace that is our Mental Health system!

Mary Harney is not responsible for the entire mess but its easy to make a scapegoat when its a titanic situation. I feel sorry for her to be honest and would not be in the least surprised if she resigns. Id say she'd be happy to let it go.

if shes happy to go on a huge pension God love her. Im sure she has an excellent prviate health insurance plan for her retirement. She useless
