Depends on the risk. I might mention it to staff, but I wouldnt intervene myself.... I wouldnt risk my life or anything. But it does cost us a fortune.

It depends on the situation I think! When I was working for 3 in the UK we rented space of Superdrug!

One day I saw a dude robbing some stuff and I though I was brilliant, I stopped him just as he left and brought him back him, I think he thought I was undercover! I felt bad then cus he seemed genuinely sorry, they let him go anyway! The manager in Superdrug then gave me the radio walkie talkie yolk for the day lol!

If it puts you at risk I wouldn't bother reporting them, it wouldn't really affect me, likewise if it was someone who looked genuine, everyone hits bad times, I'd rob for my child if circumstances needed me too!

There are some who make a habit of it and ideally I would report them, depending on the situation again though

It does cost us a fortune every year! There was a program done on this once and it said that 85% of the pick pocketing done is performed by staff working in the same shop. lol. Ive actually witnessed that happening myself. One girl was a champion at it. Full bag of groceries taken home every day at close of business. SHe was partial to the Chicken Tonight Supreme bags. I myself own up to having pocketed those battered packs of cigarettes that cant be sold and also helped myself to a fair share of bags of crisps or chocolate bars or penny sweets. But when people start stealing money from the til, it becomes a serious problem. That same girl ended up getting caught on camera counting the daily takings. I was shown the video and basically it was like 50 for the shop, 50 for me, 20 for the shop, 20 for me... weekends in Paris on Valentines day! Ill never forget it. lol. Must take some guts to do this and get away with it. almost a thrill seek. But the shame of it if caught would just be enuf to turn me off trying.
I robbed a foundation stick from Boots when I was like 14. But that was more embarrassment to go to the check out than actual wanting to rob it.

My parents owned a shop for about 50 years, so I grew up sort of working in the shop. I was never able to confront any one there that I thought was shoplifting. It would be easily be turned around to make you out to be the bad guy and that they would take you to court for deformation of character.

I think stealing is wrong, but I also know that Ireland has become a lot more dangerous, and people have become a lot more desperate. I dont condone stealing, but I would not put my life in danger by tackling a shoplifter..... regardless of my value/belief system.

I used to work in Virgin Megastore years ago and it was amazing to see the lengths peope go to. Filling a babys pram with DVDs, secret pockets in coats. I even caught one guy trying to bite the security tag off a computer game.

To answer the question, I think I would report it if I could do it without causing danger to myself.

You don't necessarily have to put your safety at risk when it comes to shoplifting. You can quietly approach a security guard to report it.

A couple of years ago I caught a girl trying to pickpocket me on the bus. I flipped the lid and everyone in the bus thought I was crazy! I didn't care though 'cos I was so furious with her for having the brass neck.

I'm amazed by the amount of people that would just look the other way if they witnessed shoplifting or someone's pocket being picked! Hear no evil, see no evil! No wonder this country is so corrupt.

As long as I wasn't at risk I think I would report it, although I would probably be tempted to give a loud tut and stare in the chance they put it back. Which although doesn't really prevent them from doing it again when I'm gone... I guess ill have to wait until I see someone shop lift

I would draw the line at chopping off someones hand though, the blood spill could easily lead to an accident on the shop floor, which could rock the casbah, and sharia law don't like it.
