Would you report a shop lifter, if you caught them in the act?
Or would you just ignore them and think it is the shop's loss?

I would ignore it. Unless it was something major, like electronics or something.

The superheroe in me would want to take the perp down but I couldn't be bothered so I would ignore it, unless as in Ice's case it was a kid I knew, then I would squeal to his parents.

When does stealing become alright? Amazing how people change their tune when they are the victims.
The aplogist for the shoplifters suddenly morph into one the hang 'em, shoot them brigade when they become a victim themselves...

i don't think anyone is saying it's alright. some of us wouldn't botehr reporting a shop lifter.

if i see someone stealling a chocolate bar i'm not gonna report it, hardly worth the hassle. if it was something expensive then yes.

But what is different between an adult and a child, surely the adult has more sense of what is wrong about stealing?
So why turn a blind eye?

When I worked in the supermarkert I was always watching people steal stuff.
I was suppose to call security, but I only did that once. It was usually mothers with babies or really poor people, I didn't want to be the one to get make their lives even more shite then they already were.

I went through a brief phase of it myself, stealing from the shop after school - I used to shove the latest copy of Smash Hits under my jumper. Thank god I didn't get caught my parents woulda murdered me..

In my own little way I think I would be doing the child a favour and hopilly he would be thought a lesson in respect of other peoples property and the law. That may prevent him from stealing and getting into trouble in the future.

I just don't get the atitude of turn a blind eye to stealing, the majority of shop lifters do it simply because they think they can get away with it, and ultimately we all pay, when prices are increased..
Would you ignore someone stealing from your pocket?

You are right but I don't perceive Tescos stuff as mine, it's like media piracy in the end we all pay, but there is little I can do about it.
